It will be seen that adverse reports were received upon eleven sample*
and following is a brief account of the action taken in respect thereof
MERINGUE POWDER.
This informal sample of meringue pcwder contravened the Labelling of Food
Order 1953 inasmuch as the requirement for additional, sugar to make forms of
meringue was not made clear to the purchaser by the wording of the carton.
After correspondence the manufacturers altered the wording and submitted a new
carton for approval.
PORK SAUSAGES.
Notices as to preservative contained were not exhibited in the shops at
the time of purchase of these samples of pork sausages. The Public Analyst
reported that the samples contained 65 parts per million and 320 parts per
million respectively of sulphur dioxide. Informal action was taken to ensure
the future display of notices.
SEASONING.
A formal sample of seasoning did not disclose on the label the specific
ingredients, as required by the Labelling of Food Order 1953. Following a
discussion, the manufacturers amended the wording to conform to the Order.
