VACCINATION AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS
B.C.G. vaccination against tuberculosis is offered to school children
between the ages of 13 and 14 years, and to students attending further
education establishments»
The object of the scheme is to provide resistance to tuberculosis during
the adolescent period when children are most susceptible to the infection.
The scheme is operated through the County School Health Service.
PUBLIC HEALTH (PREVENTION OF TUBERCULOSIS) REGULATIONS 1925
PUBLIC HEALTH ACT 1936 (Section 172)
During 1961 it did not become necessary to use the powers given under the
above legislation. These powers prohibit persons suffering from pulmonary
tuberculosis from entering upon employment involving the handling of milk, and
the compulsory removal and detention in hospital, in certain circumstances, of
persons suffering from tuberculosis.
