MASS RADIOGRAPHY.
The Mass Radiography Unit of the South West Metropolitan
Regional Hospital Board has made a practice of visiting Wimbledon for
two weeks every year, when facilities are made available for the free
x-ray of the chest for all persons over the age of 15 years. During 1958
in an effort to get a larger response from the public a more intensive
survey was organised than in previous years.
A static unit was stationed at the South Wimbledon Methodist
Church Hall for four weeks from 27th May until 17th June, and other
units were stationed at the T.A. Centre, St. Georges Road, from 27th
30th May and at Wimbledon Park Hall, Arthur Road, from 2nd - 6th
June.
I am indebted to the Medical Director of the Mass Radiography
Service for the following details of the findings of the survey.
Males | 2,999 |
Females | 3,085 6,084 |

Females | 3 |

(iii) Primary lung cancer : | |

As the facilities were available to all, whether they resided in the
Borough or not, the figures do not necessarily relate to Wimbledon
residents only.
The examination is of value in the early diagnosis and treatment
of pulmonary tuberculosis and other non-tuberculous abnormalities.
