It will be seen that adverse reports were received upon 10 samples
and the following is an account of the action taken in respect thereof:-
Confectionery.
(1) As the result of a complaint, an article of sherbet confectionery
(Jumbo sucker) was submitted to the Public Analyst for examination.
At the same time, a further sample was purchased informally from the
same retailer's shop. The Analyst reported that, apart from the ingredients
in each case not being correctly specified on the label, the
amount of tartaric acid was in excess of the amount normally contained
in this type of confectionery. As a result of correspondence, the
manufacturers agreed to reduce the amount of tartaric acid, and the
