The figure of 8 deaths from all forms of tuberculosis represents
a death rate, per 1,000 of population, of 0.14 compared with 0 07 for
1954 when the lowest figure ever, was recorded. The rate for England
and Wales for 1955 was 015.
The death rate for this disease has continued to fall over a number
of years both locally and nationally. The detection of the disease in an
early stage by the increasing use of mass radiography has been an
important factor in producing this result.
