July, 1955.
To The Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors

Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit the Annual Report on the work of the
Public Health Department for the year 1954. This report is compiled
in accordance with the instructions contained in Circular 1/54 of the
Ministry of Health.
The report is largely statistical in character. These statistics show
a number of very satisfactory features.
The corrected death rate for the Borough in 1954 was 8.51 per
thousand of the population, compared with the rate of 11.3 for England
and Wales. This is the lowest death rate recorded in Wimbledon for
more than forty years. The corrected live birth rate for Wimbledon
during the period was 12.94 compared with a rate of 15.2 for England
and Wales.
There were no maternal deaths in the Borough.
