OVER, INFECTIOUS AND OTHER DISEASES.
Notifications of Infectious Disease.
During the year there were 1,158 cases of infectious disease notified,
as compared with 668 cases during 1950. This increase was
largely due to an outbreak of measles, of which 758 cases were notified.
Diphtheria.
There were no cases of diphtheria in Wimbledon during 1951.
One child suspected to be suffering from diphtheria was found, after
admission to hospital, to be suffering from follicular tonsillitis.
Immunisation against Diphtheria.
The authority responsible for immunisation in this area is the
Surrey County Council.
The following table shows the state of immunisation in Wimbledon in relation to the child population.

Scarlet Fever.
During 1951 there were 136 cases of scarlet fever notified, as compared
with 68 during 1950. The majority of these cases occurred
during November and December, when in all 70 cases were notified,
including 54 children attending infant or junior schools in the area.
