Legal Proceedings.
There were three prosecutions under Section 9 of the Food & Drugs
Act, 1938. Details of these cases are given below.
(1) A retailer was summonsed for selling a meat pie containing a piece
of medicated lint. The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £5.
Costs amounting to £3 were awarded.
(2) A retailer was summonsed for selling a cream sponge cake with
a piece of cigarette embedded in the cream. The defendant pleaded
guilty and was fined £5. Costs awarded amounted to £2 9s. 0d.
(3) A retailer was summonsed for selling a loaf of bread in a dirty
condition and with a piece of string-like material embedded in the
crust. The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined £3. Costs of
£1. Is. Od. were awarded.
