The statistics supplied by the Registrar-General show that
during 1950 the total number of registered live births belonging to
Wimbledon was 772. In addition 14 stillbirths were registered. This
gives a birth-rate of 13.40 per thousand of the population compared
with a rate of 15.38 per thousand for the previous year.
A comparability factor has been supplied by the RegistrarGeneral
which enables the birth-rate for Wimbledon to be compared
with that for England and Wales. The corrected birth-rate for
Wimbledon for 1950 is 12.46 per thousand of the population, whilst
the rate for England and Wales is 15.8.
Of the 14 stillbirths registered, 13 occurred in hospitals or nursing
homes, and one occurred at home.
The birth-rate for Wimbledon reached its peak in 1947, and has
since been falling steadily to its present level of 12.46 per thousand
of the population.
