Twelve smallpox contacts, from a ship on which a case of
smallpox had occurred, were kept under supervision in Wimbledon
by the staff of the Health Department. A number of these were
re-vaccinated by the medical staff.
One man, whose home was in Essex, and who was an indirect
contact of one of the passengers from this ship, developed chickenpox
in Wimbledon. He was removed to the Wimbledon Infectious
Diseases Hospital. Investigations carried out through the Central
Public Health Laboratoy confirmed the diagnosis of chickenpox in
this case.
