in one house there were three cases, in seven houses there
were two cases, and in the remaining forty-three houses, one
case.
Fifty-nine, or 98.33 per cent. of the patients received
hospital treatment.
Three deaths occurred, giving a death rate of 0.05 per
thousand of the population.
Of the cases notified, 63.33 per cent. were children of school age, five to fifteen years, and of these thirty-eight attended the following schools:—

Careful investigation is carried out after each case of
diphtheria has been notified. School children from infected
houses are swabbed and not re-admitted to school until a
