Drainage, Sewerage, and Refuse Collection.-All the houses
in Wimbledon are provided with adequate water closet accommodation,
none of the premises being dependent on closets of the
conservancy type.
There are only four houses in the district without separate
water closet accommodation. Two of these houses are in
North Wimbledon and the other two in the southern part of
the town. In both instances there is an outside water closet
which is used in common.
I am indebted to the Borough Engineer and Surveyor for
the following information:— “The sewage works are in course
of modernisation. A scheme is under consideration for the
provision of a further eight or ten filters. This final extension
will enable the whole of the present flow of sewage to be dealt
with by means of efficient filters. For the past two years
regular analyses have been carried out and daily results recorded
showing that the filters are discharging very efficient
effluent into the River Wandle. A good deal of work has
been done during the year in the cleansing and repair of the
sewerage system, and closer investigation is being carried out
in order to restore, as much as possible, the old sewers to
proper condition.
Refuse collection is carried on by a fleet of covered motor
vehicles. The collection of waste-paper is incorporated with the
collection of refuse, with financially beneficial results to the
Corporation.”
