the year there were nineteen registered nursing homes,
namely:—

Certificates of registration or re-registration were issued
by the Council in respect of:—
Nursing Homes for Medical, Surgical and
Maternity Cases 1
Nursing Homes for General Medical and
Chronic Cases 1
Total 2
Intimation was received that one Nursing Home for
maternity cases was being discontinued.
These homes were periodically inspected and supervised.
In a few cases, alterations were required, such as improvements
in ventilation, better larder accommodation, and
additional provision against the danger of fire. In all
instances the requirements of the Council were complied with.
The standard of the nursing homes in Wimbledon is good.
MORTUARY.
The mortuary is situated within the grounds of the
Cemetery at Gap Road. The Council have under consideration
the question of the erection of a new mortuary and postmortem
room, and an amount for this purpose has been
included in the estimate of rate for the current year. It is
hoped that work will be comimenced on the new building
during 1933.
Prom information received from the Superintendent of
the Cemetery there were ninety-eight bodies received into the
mortuary during 1932. Inquests were held by the Coroner
with respect to ninety-four bodies, equalling 18.57 per cent,
of the deaths registered as occurring in the Borough.
