The following information is supplied by Mr. T. Webster,
Borough Surveyor:—
Recreation Grounds.—A new Public Convenience for both
sexes has been erected at Holland Gardens.
Housing.—Nine parlour-type houses were erected in
Faraday Road and are let to suitable tenants.
Sewage Disposal Works.—Since the commencement of 1931
four additional percolating filters with appurtenant works have
been put into operation.
Two filters constructed about twenty years ago have been
reconditioned.
All these filters are giving a high degree of purification to
the sewage.
Refuse Collection.—The motor lorries used for the collection
of house refuse have now been fitted with covers which securely
enclose the refuse, thus preventing the usual nuisances connected
with the open type of lorry.
An additional lorry has been purchased to supplement the
existing fleet.
Street Gully Cleansing.—During the past year the gullies
have been emptied and re-sealed with fresh water by means of
a mechanical vehicle. The detritus is drawn straight into a
sealed tank in the machine, thus obviating the practice of allowing
the detritus to lie in the channels until collected.
