The School Medical Service in Relation to Public
Elementary Schools.
3. SCHOOL HYGIENE.
Speaking generally, the sanitary condition of the Public
Elementary Schools in the district is very satisfactory. During
the year painting at the following schools was carried out by
the Borough Surveyor's Department: —
Pelham Road Infants—internal painting.
Wimbledon Park School—internal and external painting.
A drinking water service off the Water Board's mains has
been installed at the following schools: —
Dundonald School.
Queen's Road School.
Effra Road School.
Haydons Road Boys.
Haydons Road Girls and Infants.
Old Central School.
The remaining schools are now being dealt with.
Schools that have the least satisfactory dual desks for
senior scholars are being equipped with modem locker-desks.
4. MEDICAL INSPECTION.
(a) The children medically examined were those in the three
groups required by the Code of the Board of Education. These
included:—
(i) Entrants: i.e., those children admitted to school for
the first time since the last routine medical inspection,
(ii) Intermediates: i.e., those children who have attained
their 8th birthday since the last routine medical
inspection, or who will be 9 years af age during the
current year.
(iii) Leavers: i.e., those children who have attained their
12th birthday since the last routine medical inspection,
or who will be 13 years of age during the
current year.

There were medically inspected in the schools during the year 1930:—

Total1751

In addition there were 140 other routine inspections in the
schools, making a total of 1,891.
