New School Clinic and Welfare Centre.
The new combined Clinic for School Medical Purposes and
Welfare work, erected in Pelham Road, was opened in November,
1928. This new Clinic affords better facilities for carrying
on the work, than that previously given. The Clinic is central
and well equipped, and should prove a great boon.
Medical Inspection.
The children inspected in routine manner in accordance with
the Board's Schedule were:—
(1) All new admissions ("Entrants");
(2) Those of 8-9 years of age ("Intermediates");
and (3) Those of 12-13 years ("Leavers").
Total "Routine" Inspections in 1928—1,743 (v. Table I.
Appendix).
Findings of Medical Inspection, (v. Table II. Appendix).
Routine Inspections are conducted as above. "Special"
Inspections (any Age) are made daily 9.30 a.m. or at the
"Inspection" Clinic on Tuesday afternoon sessions.
The children requiring to be kept under observation were
those suffering from chronic nose and throat conditions—heart
and lung cases—defects of vision, and a few deformities.
Minor Ailments.
This Clinic is held every morning, and the children are sent
either by the School teachers or their mothers.
1,633 children attended for treatment, and made 4,722
attendances. The cases treated were mostly minor injuries—
septic sores—various skin diseases—external eye and ear eases.
Tonsil and Adenoid Cases.
An arrangement is made with the local hospitals for any
case thought to require treatment. 100 cases have been operated
on during the year. All these cases are kept under observation
at the Clinic for some months after treatment.
Tuberculosis Cases.
Children thought to be suffering from Tuberculosis are
referred to the County Tuberculosis Officer for treatment. These
cases are kept under close observation and "infective" cases
are excluded from school or sent to special Institutions.
