under the Housing Acts I reported the details of the two premises
which were in my opinion extremely dangerous to the
occupiers owing to their dilapidated condition. After considering
the report t-he Committee authorised the service of a closing
order and as the premises were not vacated on the expiration
of the notice, proceedings were instituted and a case was heard
before the local Magistrates, who made an order for the premises
to be vacated within twenty-one days. This order was
obeyed and the owners of the property have since submitted
plans for the reconstruction of the buildings. At the time of
making this report reconstruction work has not been commenced
and the Local Authority will, therefore, be asked to
serve demolition orders.
The Staff of the Department heard with deep regret on
14th May of the sudden death on the previous day of Dr.
Gilmour, the Medical Officer of Health, and desire to record
their acknowledgment of his kindness of heart and consideration
at all times.
I again desire to record my appreciation of the loyal support
and assistance rendered by my Staff generally, and to acknowledge
the kind co-operation of my colleagues of other Departments.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
HENRY JOHNSON,
F.S.I.A., F.R.S.I.
Chief Sanitary Inspector.
