Co-ordination:—The work of the School Medical Service
and of the Maternity and Child Welfare Section has been
still further co-ordinated by placing the entire administration
in the hands of one Committee—the Maternity and Child
Welfare Committee. This Committee is responsible for the
Ante-natal Clinics, the Infant Welfare Centres, the Day Nursery,
the issue of free milk to mothers and infants, and th°
entire schemes of medical inspection and treatment of school
children. No difficulties are experienced although financial
matters affect two Authorities—the Local Authority, and the
Local Education Authority. The closer control over the work
and better continuity in records should undoubtedly result
in more efficient service in the future.
There are no Nursery Schools in the Wimbledon Area.
The Committee has under consideration a scheme whereby
the school medical clinic, the dental clinic, and one welfare
centre—at present in separate buildings—may all be grouped
in suitable and convenient premises. The treatment of children
under school age and of nursing and expectant mothers
will thus be facilitated, and delay and trouble in going from
one clinic to the other will be avoided. In this way also,
the progress of debilitated children under school age will be
more closely supervised.
