(c) Tonsils and Adenoids. Table IV. Group III.
The severe eases requiring operation were treated at the
two local hospitals, Nelson Hospital and Copse Hill Hospital,
and arrangements were made for the children to remain in
hospital for one or two days after the operation. Slight cases,
not requiring treatment, were kept under observation at the
Schools and at the Clinic.
For the children sent to hospital a charge is made for the
operation according to the means of the parents, and the
balance is defrayed by the Education Committee.

In many cases it has been necessary to remove septic teeth
previous to operation. These have been referred to the Dental
Department and dealt with there.
(d) Tuberculosis.
Suspicious cases, not already under observation, were referred
to the Tuberculosis Officer, who treated them and kept them,
under close observation for some time. After treatment at the
Dispensary, some cases were returned to the School Clinic whero
they were still kept under observation. The slight glandular
cases were kept under observation at the School Clinic.

During the year there were 926 atendances at the Special
Inspection Clinic held on Tuesday afternoon.
(e) Skin Diseases. Table IV. Group I.
(f and g) Eye Diseases. Table IV. Group II.
Serious cases of external eye disease were either referred
to the special hospitals or to their own doctor. Such cases as
mild conjunctivitis and blepharitis were treated at the Clinic.
During the year under review Dr. Cowie examined 228
children, of whom 219 had glasses provided.
