The staff of the department had a strenuous year and my thanks to them for their efforts in
the face of all the difficulties are real and sincere. I can also express on their behalf and mine
thanks to colleagues in other departments for all their co-operation during the year.
We should like to thank members of Council Committees concerned with the work of the
department, particularly the Health and Welfare Committee and Councillor Mrs. K.B. Latreille,
Chairman at a time of considerable stress both in committee and with the general public, for all
the help received, and also to Councillor Mrs. P.K. Williams, Chairman for the early part of the
year.
