school Health Programme - Apart from the routine duties connected with
medical examinations, other services performed by the health visitors
and school nurses for each child have included annual foot surveys,
simple vision testing and hygiene inspections. Regarding the latter
group, owing to a slight increase in the number of verminous conditions
in some areas, more frequent examinations have been carried out. Follow
up visits to the home which provide opportunities for more personal
consultation continueto be of great value.
Medical and Social Liaison - Regular contact is maintained with the
local geriatric and general hospitals which the health visitor visits
weekly for the purpose of exchanging information and knowledge concerning
both in-patient and out-patient, thus forming a beneficial link
between home and hospital services.
As a medico social worker, some of the health visitors work
together with general practitioners for one session per week, providing
a team highly trained in practical and social medicine.
We are much indebted to the Women's Voluntary Service and other
social bodies for their valuable assistance afforded to us in many
diverse ways. There still remains a great need for the extension of
voluntary services to augment those already provided.
