Laboratory Facilities
Arrangements continued with the Public Health Laboratory
Service at Colindale. The number of specimens examined during
the year was as follows:-
Specimens Total
Faeces and rectal swabs 814
Nose and throat swabs 8,154
Urine 1
Pood 2
Miscellaneous 10
Total 8,981
In addition over 10,000 swabs were examined in connection with
the Diphtheria outbreak. This was a mammoth task and we have
nothing but admiration for the way the Laboratory staff came to
our assistance. The laboratory service is essential in the
control of any such outbreak.
