The average mean annual infant mortality rate for the quinquennium
1931/35 was 49, for the quinquennium 1946/50 it was
27, and for the quinquennium 1951/55 it was 23.6.
The table showing the classification of infant deaths is given
in the section of the report dealing with the care of mothers and
young children (Section 22).
MATERNAL MORTALITY
During 1958 no death was classified as being due to pregnancy,
childbearing or associated therewith.

The maternal mortality rates (per 1,000 total births) for the past five years have been given as follows:—
