The average mean annual infant mortality rate for the quinquennium
1931/35 was 49, and for the quinquennium 1946/50 it
was 27. During the five years 1952/56 it fell to 22.8 i.e., less than
half the rate for 1931/35.

in the section of the report dealing with the care of mothers and
young children (Section 22).
