NOTIFICATION OF BIRTHS
1,842 births (449 of which belonged to other Areas) were
notified during the year under the Public Health Act, 1936.
Notifications were received as follows: Doctors 307; Midwives
1,515; Others 20.
Also included are 34 stillbirths, 10 of which belonged to other
areas. Of the total, 10 occurred outside the Borough.
NEO-NATAL MORTALITY
The neo-natal mortality is the number of infants dying under
one month per 1,000 live births. During 1955, 23 infants died in
the first four weeks of life, a rate of 17.5.
