TUBERCULOSIS

The following table shows particulars of new cases of tuberculosis and of all deaths from the disease in the Borough during 1955 :—-

As each new case of pulmonary tuberculosis has been notified,
enquiry has been made as to the infectivity of the patient. Of 61
cases investigated, 27 were sputum positive on notification or soon
after, i.e. 44.2%. The percentages during 1953 and 1954 were
45.6 and 42.0 respectively

Twentyeight deaths occurred amongst persons whose names
were on the tuberculosis register and of these the Registrar General
ascribes 17 to tuberculosis, i.e. 14 pulmonary and 3 non-pulmonary.
