Of the 1.174 intimation notices served, 254 were in respect of
business premises and the remainder (920) related to defects in
private houses. Of the latter figure, 713 were complied with with'
out resort to statutory procedure.
It was found necessary to institute legal proceedings against
owners for non-compliance with forty-five Abatement Notices
served under Section 93 of the Public Health Act, 1936. Orders
were made by the Justices in fifteen cases with costs of 6s. to
£3 3s. 0d. being awarded, four cases of which had further penalties
ranging from £1 0s. 0d. to £5 0s. 0d. with costs of £1 11s. 6d. to
£2 2s. 0d. In six cases, the summonses were withdrawn or dismissed,
and twenty-four cases were adjourned sine die, five of
which had costs ranging from £1 1s. 0d. to £2 2s. 0d.
