The average mean annual infant mortality rate for the quinquennium
1931/35 was 49, and for the quinquennium 1946/50 it
was 27. During the five years 1951/55 it fell to 23.6 i.e., less than
half the rate for 1931/35.
The table showing the classification of infant deaths is given
in the section of the report dealing with the care of mothers and
young children (Section 22).
MATERNAL MORTALITY
During 1955 one death was classified as being due to pregnancy, childbearing or associated therewith. The details are included in the following table:—
