In January, 1954 the Health Area Sub-Committee invited
tenders for additions and alterations to the Nurses' Home at
Carisbrooke Road and authorised the acceptance of the lowest tender
at £4,992. This amount had to be increased subsequently owing
to unforeseen additional work which was required having regard to
the fact that two rather old houses were being dealt with. The total
cost worked out at £5,795.
The alterations embraced the fire precautions which had been
suggested by the County Fire Prevention Services and comprised
the following :—
1. Alteration of two existing ground floor rooms to provide
general and midwifery district rooms respectively with all
necessary sanitary conveniences and sterilising equipment.
