F.— PREVALENCE OF, AND CONTROL OVER,
INFECTIOUS AND OTHER DISEASES
General.— The following tables show the age and ward
incidence of the various infectious diseases which are referred to
in later pages of the report. The total of notified cases was only
slightly less in 1953 than in 1952.
Once again there was no confirmed case of diphtheria; scarlet
fever and measles were fewer, but cases of pneumonia, puerperal
pyrexia, whooping cough and dysentery were higher. Notifications
of tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, food poisoning and erysipelas were
very similar to those in 1952.
