The average mean annual mortality rate for the quinquennium
1931/35 was 49, and for the quinquennium 1946/50 it was 27.
During the three years 1951/53 it fell to 24.5, i.e., exactly half the
rate for 1931/35.
The death rate from diarrhoea and enteritis in children under
one year of age per 1,000 live births was 0.7.
The table showing the classification of infant deaths is given
in the section of the report dealing with the care of mothers and
young children (Section 22).
MATERNAL MORTALITY

During 1953 there were two deaths classified as being due to pregnancy, childbearing or associated therewith. The details are included in the following table:-
