This participation in the Queen's training scheme completes the
picture in regard to the recruitment of staff for home nursing. Pupil
midwives in the second part of their training at Thorpe Coombe
Maternity Hospital undergo district midwifery training at "Carisbrooke
"working alongside the home nurses. Many decide to stay
on as temporary home nurses, and some to take their Queen's
training in home nursing and to remain on the permanent staff.
Administration of Antibiotics—Skin reactions.—During 1953,
an enquiry was made into the occurrence of skin reactions amongst
home nursing staff administering antibiotics. During 1952, over
14,000 such injections were given and fortunately without ill effect
to the nursing staff. None has been reported during 1953 in the
13,461 injections given. The advice given in Ministry of Health
Circular 16/53 was brought to the notice of all home nursing staff.
