This participation in the training scheme completes the picture
in regard to the recruitment of staff for home nursing. Pupil Midwives
in the second part of their training at Thorpe Coombe
Maternity Hospital undergo District Midwifery training at "Carisbrooke,"
working alongside the Home Nurses. Many decide to
stay on as temporary Home Nurses, and some to take their Queen's
training in Home Nursing and to remain on the permanent staff.
General.—The Superintendent of the District Nurses' Home,
Miss E. G. Welbrock, S.R.N., S.C.M., M.T.D., reports as follows:—
"Several changes occurred during 1952. Owing to
increase of work, it was found necessary to appoint an
Assistant Superintendent. Miss M. H. Cronshey, S.R.N.,
S.C.M., Q.N., was appointed to this post in February, 1952.
"Our work steadily increases, and at the moment the
District Nurses are doing an average of 20 cases in a morning,
apart from return visits in the evening.
"The District Midwives continue to work happily with
us.
"Another alteration has been the holding of the clinics
by District Midwives at ' Carisbrooke.'
"Staff on the 31st December, 1952, was as follows:—
1 Superintendent; Queen's S.R.N., S.C.M., M.T.D.
1 Assistant Superintendent; Queen's S.R.N., S.C.M.
3 Full-time Queen's S.R.N., S.C.M.
1 „ „ S.R.N., S.C.M., H.V. Certificate.
11 „ „ S.R.N., S.C.M.
3 „ „ S.R.N.
1 „ „ Male Queen's S.R.N.
1 Part-time Queen's S.R.N., S.C.M.
4„ „ S.E.A.N.
"During the year 39 pupils entered for District Midwifery
Training.

"Midwifery and Maternity Nursing undertaken during the year was as follows:—
