There were 13 cases in four families. In the first, shell fish
had been bought from a street trader and two adults and a child
were affected. In the second family, the mother and four children
alleged that the illness followed consumption of tinned stewed
steak. The third family produced cases in three children, the
suspected cause being cold meat from a Sunday joint. The standard
of hygiene in this house was reported to be very low. In the fourth
family there were two children and an adult, the suspected cause
being tinned foods.
In none of these cases was it possible to identify accurately
either the agent or the cause.
