The details given below are taken from summaries which
were supplied to the Ministry at the conclusion of each
"outbreak."
In March, 10 cases at a Girls' High School, due to a meal
of Macaroni Cheese, and Plums and Custard. Both the
Macaroni Cheese and the Cook's nose gave a growth of a
coagulase positive staphylococcus.
In June and August three private households were affected
by 6, 7 and 3 cases respectively. No causal agent was identified
but ice cream and tinned milk were suspect. The three cases
were due to Sal. Typhi. Murium.
In July there were 10 cases in a Female Medical Ward at a
General Hospital and probably due to tinned stewed steak.
In August there were 42 cases at a factory employing 158
persons. The causal agent was not identified.
