INFLUENZA
Towards the close of the year epidemic influenza became widespread
in other parts of the country.
The local weekly mortality returns were noted and compared
with those for 1948, which was the record low year.
During the five weeks ended 30th December, 1950, there were
20 deaths from pneumonia and bronchitis compared with 10 in
1948 but there were none in either year from influenza.
During the first quarter of 1951 there were, however, seven
deaths from influenza in January, five in February, and one in
March, compared with none for the same quarter in 1948.
