The natural increase of population, i.e., excess of births over
deaths was 537.
The usual comparison of rates with those for the whole country
is shown in the table on the following page.
Deaths.—The Registrar-General's classification of causes of
death by sex totals is given.
The total number of deaths in 1949 (1,299) compares with
1,243 in 1948, the respective death rates per 1,000 population being
10.5 and 10.1.
Comparability Factor.—The comparability factor for Walthamstow
is given by the Registrar-General as 1.05, which, when applied
to the crude death rate of 10.5, gives an adjusted rate of 11.0.
