The notifications and rates for Walthamstow for the past five
years have been as follows:-
Per 1,000 Total Births (live and still)
Puerperal Pyrexia
Year. No. Rate.
1948 22 10.40
1947 30 10.99
1946 33 12.62
1945 32 18.08
1944 28 14.23
The rates have been high because of the strictness of
notification at the Maternity Hospital, i.e., cases are notified which
in other areas would probably not be notified, especially in
domiciliary practice.
