Child Life Protection.—On the 5th July the Children Act
came into operation and the Children's Committee of the County
Council became responsible for carrying out the functions of the
local authority under the Child Life Protection provisions of Part
VII of the Public Health Act 1936, and also under the Adoption
of Children (Regulation) Act 1939.
There were nineteen nurse-children on the register at 5th
July.

Adoption.—Close co-operation exists with the Education
Department's Attendance Officers, and a Health Visitor's report
is given in regard to each application. Similar action is taken in
cases referred from adoption societies.
Massage.—Six sessions per week were held at the Welfare
Centres. 163 cases attended for massage and these made 1,794
attendances.
Sale of Milk, etc., at Clinics.—The quantity and value of milk
and food sold and issued free during 1948 was as follows:—
