Smoke Abatement.
The difficulty of getting suitable boiler fuel still persists
although some factory chimneys have been less troublesome
during the period under review.
On investigation of two complaints it was found that the
burning of factory waste was the cause of excessive smoke—
this practice was discontinued.
Eradication of Bed Bugs, etc.
There was a slight increase in the number of houses
reported to be bug infested, due no doubt to the exceptionally
good summer, but the figure is still comparatively low.
Fumigations or special sprayings with DDT were carried
out at 90 rooms and free insecticides were issued to tenants
of 88 premises.
