B.—GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES
IN THE AREA
1:—(1) Public Health Officers of the Authority:—The names and
qualifications of officers employed by your Authority are given at
the beginning of the Report. All are whole-time officers unless
otherwise stated.
(ii) (a) Laboratory Facilities:—(See I. D. Section.)
(b) Ambulance Facilities:—
Municipal Service.
This Service was transferred to the County Council on the
5th July, 1948. The following shows the number of calls and the
mileage during the period 1st January to 4th July, 1948.

For the year ended 4th July, 1948, there were 11,562 calls
involving a distance of 52,277 miles.
Whipps Cross Hospital.
Removal of patients is carried out by ambulances attached to
the Hospital.
St. John Ambulance Brigade.
Mr. V. G. Turner, Divisional Superintendent, kindly contributes
the following report:—
"Number 29 Division celebrated its Golden Jubilee this
year. On January 5th, 1899, it was registered as a division in
the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
"Things have altered a great deal since then—there is
now more call on our services, and during 1948 we carried out
somewhere in the region of 5,000 local duties. At our local
headquarters we treated 200 cases, in addition to the numerous
treatments carried out at Public places, which are not recorded
locally.
"We are now starting a Cadet Division for boys aged 11
to 16 years."
(c) Nursing in the Home.
(i) General.—The work done by the Walthamstow
District Nursing Association was taken over by
the County Council on July 5th. General supervision
and control became delegated to the
Health Area Sub-Committee and its officers.
(ii) Infectious Diseases.—No change.
(d) Clinics and Treatment Centres.
Foot Clinic.—This Service was transferred to the County
