I. THORPE COOMBE MATERNITY HOSPITAL.
Bookings.—In February, in view of the pressure on the accommodation
at Thorpe Coombe your Committee recommended a schemc
of selective bookings on the following basis per month:—
First confinements, 50; unsatisfactory conditions, 25; for
medical/obstetric reasons, 15; plus late emergencies. With a
maximum total of 105 per month.
After receipt of Ministry of Health Circular 96/46 your Committee
recommended that patients be discharged on the 10th day
unless medical and home conditions contra-indicated—home nursing
to be provided by the Domiciliary Midwifery Sisters.

Research.—Dr. Helen Rodway contributed a paper on "The
Effects of Exercises on Child Bearing" to the Journal of Obstetricians
and Gynaecologists of the British Empire.

plus three miscarriages (including ante-natal and post-natal
