4. Cremation.—Facilities for cremation are available at the
Crematorium provided by the City of London at Manor Park,
Little Ilford.
The attempts of previous years to secure the co-operation of
other areas in regard to the provision of a joint crematorium were
revived and discussion is still proceeding.
5. Medical Examinations.—During the year, 163 examinations
were carried out by the Medical Staff in respect of the
Superannuation and Sick Pay Schemes.
6. Domestic Help.—Following the receipt of Ministry of
Health Circular 110/46, your Committee recommended that the
existing scheme be modified on the lines suggested and that an
organiser and four full-time domestic helps be appointed together
with any necessary clerical help.
It was decided that the existing Home Help scheme for
expectant mothers which has for many years worked well and
smoothly should continue unaltered.
The calls for domestic help were fortunately very few since
it was not possible to recruit satisfactory domestic helpers. This
position continues in 1947.
7. Nurses Act, 1943.—The County Council delegated to your
Counoil functions under Part II of the Act.
8. Capital Expenditure.—The proposals under this heading
included £10,000 for the modernisation and extension of the Infectious
Diseases Hospital; the provision of new and additional
Welfare Centres and extensions at the Maternity Hospital.
9. National Health Service Act, 1946.—Suggestions were
made to the County Council as the Local Health Authority under
the Act in regard to the "zoning" and reservation of some fourteen
sites for future health centres.
10. Supply of Insulin.—Four patients were supplied with
Insulin in accordance with Circular 2734/1943, at a total cost to
the Council of £6 11s. Od.
