2. Public Assistance.
Out-relief and institutional treatment is provided by the Essex County Council. Mr. Pegram, Clerk to the Essex County Council, South-Western Area Guardians' Committee, kindly states that the amount of relief provided in Walthamstow during the two years ended 31st December, 1946, was as follows :—

* 14 of these have not been used since the beginning of the war.
There were no cancellations, refusals or appeals.
Eighteen inspections were made by the medical staff.
One new registration was approved for one medical and seven
chronic patients.
In addition a registration in regard to an existing maternity
home for seven beds was reduced to five, and a house adjoining
was newly registered for four maternity beds, i.e., an increase of
two.
Routine enquiries are made with regard to unregistered homes.
No difficulties in regard to supervision arose.
5. Essex County Council Act.—One new licence to practice
chiropody was granted by your Council.
