Mr. L. W. Elmer, L.D.S., Senior Dental Surgeon, reports as
follows: —
"This service has now been in operation for upwards of
three years, and 1946 has been a year of steady if not spectacular
progress both in the number of patients treated and in the
operations performed.
"Below is given a statistical report of the work undertaken during the year. The comparable figures for 1945 are also given.
1946 | 1945 | |
---|---|---|
Number of patients treated | 585 | 379 |
Appointments made | 3,719 | 2,234 |
Appointments kept | 3,315 | 2,143 |
Fillings | 786 | 1,005 |
Scalings | 206 | 147 |
Dressings | 207 | 228 |
Extractions | 1,570 | 1,068 |
General anaesthetic | 446 | 238 |
Local anaesthetic | 182 | 112 |
Impressions | 371 | 223 |
Bites | 162 | 97 |
Try-ins | 193 | 106 |
Dentures supplied | 258 | 134 |
"It must be understood that, in addition to the items listed,
an amount of other work, impossible to classify accurately, has
been done during the year under review. This includes crowns
and their preparation, gum treatments, adjustments of dentures,
orthodontic appliances, etc.
" The only disappointing feature is the disproportion in the
number of fillings as compared with the number of extractions
and the amount of denture or prosthetic work. This, it is to
be hoped, will be remedied in the future by an increase in the
attendance of adolescents and younger people generally, these
being the classes who can derive most benefit from preventive
dentistry."
