population.)
The natural increase of population, i.e., excess of births over
deaths was 1,213.
The' usual comparison of vital statistics rates, with those for
the whole country, is shown in the table on the following page.
Births.—Births are dealt with under the Maternity and Child
Welfare Section of the Report.
Deaths.—The Registrar-General's classification of causes of
death by sex totals is given.
The total number of deaths in 1946 (1,331) compares with
1,271 in 1945, the respective death rates per 1,000 population being
11.2 and 12.3.
