SWABS.- 100 swabs were examined at the hospital laboratory.
All the cases admitted during the year were, with the
exception of the 5 fatal cases, very mild in degree and no single
case developed any unusual complication.
One case of scarlet fever had followed burns.
One child was transferred to a children's hospital with
a rheumatic heart.
The notifications on the diphtheria side are becoming very
inaccurate.
The Sanatorium report dated 23rd.March stated for the first
time for many years (and probably for the first time since the
opening of the Sanatorium) that there was no single case of
diphtheria under treatment.
On the same date no case was being home nursed.
This satisfactory position is yet another result from the
progress of diphtheria protection.
