Summary of New Cases, 1942.
For diagnosis of Pregnancy, 13C , Gynaecological 210 , Sterility 29,
Surgical 10, Medical 25, Contraceptive 18, Not classified 2.Total 424
Sixty-seven patients were referred to the Clinic from private
doctors. Thirty-three patients were referred to hospitals
for treatment.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE ARM.
1.(i) WATER,- No new mains have been installed during the
year 1942.
(ii ) DRAINAGE AND SE???.GE.- No ork of this character has been
carried out during the year 1942.
2. RIVERS -ND STRE/MS.- Periodical cleaning of the Dagenhara
Brook was carried out to the requirements of the Lea Conservancy
Catchment Board.
3.(i) CLOSET ACCOMMODATION.- Ho change since 1940.
(ii) PUBLIC CLEANSING.- Mr.Eric Bell, M.I.P.C., A.R.San.I.,
Cleansing Superintendent, contributes the following report:-
In preparing this report on the activities of the Public
Cleansing Department I am very pleased tc state that all essential
services were maintained during the year 1942, in spite of the
increased difficulties mainly due to the manpower situation.
HOUSE REFUSE COLLECTION.
The total weight of refuse collected during the past year was
22,706 tons. This shows an increase compared with 1941 - due most
probably to the return of residents who had been evacuated. From
this tonnage 5663 tons of salvage were returned to industry - thus
saving valuable shipping space and probably lives of some of the
Merchant Navy.
The analysis of the refuse still shows that large quantities of
tinned foods are being consumed; a drop in the ash and cinder
content, and despite the many appeals to keep separate waste paper,
cardboard, rags etc., a large amount is still being mixed in with

Women's Clinic.- Sessions were held weekly, with one
consultant session monthly.
Kiss Helen Rodway, K.R.C.O.G., submits the following report:-
WOMEN'S CLINIC REPORT, 1942.
The total attendances this year were 1,727; this includes
attendances made by 424 new patients. At Thorpe Coombe the
relief session was continued on Saturday mornings for diagnosis
of pregnancy and gynaecological coses.

This additional clinic made it possible for a certain number of patients to attend who could not do so during the week.
