Mr.L.W.Elmer, L.D.S., Senior Dental Surgeon, Submits the
following report from Mrs. W.R.Thome, L.D.S., with regard to
dental treatment under the Maternity and Child welfare Scheme:-
During 1942 two sessions weekly have been devoted to this
work.
Large numbers of mothers have been referred, but the response
is still not good; many women only wish to visit the dental
surgeon when compelled by pain.
The minority who complete their treatment are the only ones
who really benefit and are likely to interest themselves
permanently in dental health.
An increase in the charge for artificial dentures with a
reduction in necessitous cases, might well be considered.
The present small charge is not appreciated and is liable to
be considered as indicating inferior service.
(c) Tonsils and Adenoids.
Seven cases were operated on under the arrangement made by
the Education Committee with the Connaught Hospital.
(d) Ophthalmic Defects and Minor Ailments.
Children are given treatment either at the School Clinics
or by special appointment.
(e) Sunlight.
No infants were referred for sunlight treatment during 1942.
(f) Child Guidance.
Arrangements have now been made for children under five years
of age to be referred to the London Child Guidance Clinic.
There were no cases in 1942.
