"Other Diseases" covers a wide range of cases viz:
Measles, whooping cough, cerebro-spinal meningitis.
Miscellaneous.
Meningo-encephalitis arose in two cases of measles. Both
children were females aged 4½ years In one all four limbs
developed a spastic type of paralysis. In the other a flaccid
type developed. These two patients were transferred to an
E.M.S. Hospital. One died after about two months. and post mortem
sections of the brain were under examination at the time when the
last report was received. The second patient, who was completely
flaccid when transferred, gradually improved and eventually
recovered almost completely.
One patient, a girl of four, developed acute suppurative
ethmoiditis and was given a blood transfusion as part of a general
treatment. She made an excellent recovery.
A drug eruption, due to "M.& B.693" was notified as a case of
scarlet fever.
Of the sixteen cases of rubella admitted only seven were
notified as such. The other nine cases were notified as scarlet
fever.
During the year there has been a marked and increasing
inaccuracy in the notifications. This causes great difficulty
in a small hospital with severely limited cubiole accommodation.
Swabs.- 120 swabs were taken and examined during the year
in the laboratory at the hospital.
Duration of Treatment.- The average duration of treatment in
Hospital was as follows:-
Diphtheria 34.7 days
Scarlet Fever 26.3 "
Measles 13.4 "
Whooping Cough 20.7 "
Other diseases 14.4 "
